Welcome to my page! My name is Melissa  (a.k.a. Mel).  I am a wife and mother of two children (one is a young adult and the other a teenager).  This website is a place for me to share with you my experiences and those of my family.   We recently moved from Georgia to Anchorage, Alaska to experience a different way of life.  My husband and I were interested in exploring Alaska more than a few weeks out of the year and decided to make the BIG move.  We loaded a trailer with whatever we could fit in, serviced our three trucks to ensure safety, and the four of us left on a beautiful sunny day in August.  We drove from south Georgia, across the lower 48, through Canada, to Anchorage in about 12 days. We made it safely!

This website will provide information on many different topics.  Some of my favorite things include education and eLearning (I have designed and taught in various LMS systems: Angel, D2L, Moodle, Blackboard, and Canvas. This includes fully online, hybrid, and face-to-face.), health and wellness, sociology, food, and travel.  Of course, my family is a big part of my life thus I will share quite a lot of information about our adventures too.  You’ll also read (or watch posted videos) about other topics I think may be worthwhile.  I don’t claim to know everything, but I do enjoy reading, learning, and sharing my discoveries.

My formal education includes a M.S. degree in Sociology and an Ed.D. in Leadership (higher education doctorate.)  However, for as long as I can remember, my hobbies have included reading about health and wellness, especially natural healing through food and nutrition.  I love to exercise too and enjoy studying how it helps us live longer, healthier lives. This originally stemmed from an interest in helping our daughter.

Currently, I teach Sociology courses and am very busy helping our daughter navigate the world around her.  She has autism spectrum disorder and amazes me every day with her understanding of the world and of her interactions with others.  I realize it is easy for people to take things for granted without the heightened senses she possesses. (Think of a random restaurant scene.  She notices every click of utensils scraping plates, sounds in the kitchen, etc.)

Through the years, I have learned some valuable lessons, but my quest for information never ends.  I love reading and am constantly seeking knowledge that will help people live a healthier life.  Sharing that knowledge is a part of why I wanted to create this website. This website is all about sharing information and building people up to be the best they can be. I invite you to join me and check back regularly for details about our journey.

Thank you for stopping by.
